Pink Induction Cooktop as an Eye-Catcher in a Bold Kitchen
In this peek inside, we take a look at the kitchen of Bettina Neseker, interior stylist and founder of CITYMOM. In her home in Amsterdam Oud West, color is the common thread. With a designer colored induction cooktop from MAKUS as a striking, yet harmonious part of the whole.
How do you make a kitchen the heart of your home? And how do you combine bold choices with peace and balance? Bettina shares her vision, experiences, and choices.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
“I’m Bettina Neseker and I live in Amsterdam Oud West with my children and husband. In 2013, I founded CITYMOM: the hotspot and lifestyle website for mothers. Additionally, I design unique rugs and mirrors through my brand STUDIO VACAY. In 2021, I completed an interior styling course. I love that I've been able to turn my hobby into my profession since then. Since this year, I've also been working as an interior stylist.”
Which aspects played a role in the design of your kitchen?
“Our big wish was a kitchen island. And a unique one at that. So, not white marble, for example. It really had to be an eye-catcher, the centerpiece of the house.”
You've made bold choices, is that just for the kitchen or does it extend throughout the entire interior?
“I love color. You see it in various places, such as in all the bedrooms and in the extension on our ground floor. And also in our ‘Miami Vice’ toilet, which has lilac tiles with pink walls and a pink toilet and sink.”
Did everything go smoothly or did you encounter any issues?
“Not much went smoothly, but I’d rather put that behind me. No more thinking about it. But renovations? Never again.”
And, are you happy with the result?
“Very happy. The kitchen is exactly what I had envisioned. The pink induction cooktop from MAKUS completes it perfectly!”
What role does the kitchen play in your family life?
“I wanted a kitchen island because I thought it would be cozy for everyone to gather at the bar while cooking. And actually, now we only sit at the kitchen island and never at the table anymore. Breakfast, lunch, drinks, and dinner, everything is more fun at the kitchen island. I also like to work there. In short, we're practically there all day! It connects our family. We've never spent so much time together in one place.”
What do you advise others when designing their kitchen?
“Act according to your own needs: what do you find important in a kitchen? I personally don’t like a lot of items on the counter. Hence, the choice for a boiling water tap and an induction cooktop that blends beautifully into the overall design. I’m not a gourmet chef, so I don’t have much cooking equipment, which means limited cabinet space. This creates a calm interior. In terms of design, I recommend thinking ‘out of the box’. The kitchen is a place you use several times a day, so make it a good one.”
Are you happy with your MAKUS Simply Pink?
“I think it’s fantastic. I was a bit hesitant about induction cooking, but I got used to it from day one. I would never want anything else now. I also find it very child-friendly, being flameless. I also like that it blends into the kitchen itself, so it’s not such a striking black surface. The MAKUS looks calm and therefore fits perfectly with our interior. It’s truly unique! Everyone who sees our kitchen starts talking about the pink induction cooktop!”
