How does a hob with an integrated extractor work?

How does integrated extraction work?
With a traditional hob, cooking vapours are captured by a cooker hood above the hob. With a hob with integrated extraction, the extraction unit is built into the hob.
The extractor creates a powerful downward airflow. This ensures that cooking vapours are captured and extracted directly at the pans.
This works most effectively with shallow pans, as the vapour only has to travel a short distance. Are you using a tall pan? Then place the lid diagonally on the pan, with the opening facing the extractor. This way, the cooking vapours are better captured.
How is the air filtered?
The air first flows through a grease filter. This filter captures grease particles from the cooking air. After that, there are two possibilities.
The air can be discharged outside via a duct. This also removes odours and moisture from the home.
Another possibility is recirculation. The air then flows through an odour filter and is subsequently returned to the kitchen.

What should you pay attention to with recirculation?
With recirculation, the filtered air must have sufficient space to flow back into the kitchen. The odour and grease particles are filtered, but the cooking moisture remains in the home.
If moist air cannot escape sufficiently, it can accumulate behind the kitchen cabinets. This increases the risk of condensation and mould formation.
If there is sufficient space behind the kitchen cabinets, the air can be blown out directly behind the cabinet. In many kitchens, it is better to lead the air via air ducts to the plinth. The air then flows back into the room via a grille in the plinth or an opening above the plinth.
Good ventilation of the kitchen always remains important with recirculation.
Carbon filter or plasma filter?
For filtering cooking odours, there are two common options: a carbon filter and a plasma filter.
A carbon filter absorbs odours from the cooking air. Depending on the type of filter and its use, it should be replaced approximately annually.
A plasma filter breaks down odour molecules and has a much longer lifespan. Some plasma filters last up to twelve years. The purchase price is higher, but in the longer term, a plasma filter can be more economical because it does not need to be replaced annually.
