Does an induction hob make noise?
Noise during cooking on induction is normal
Almost every induction hob makes noise when in use. It is not the induction hob itself that makes the noise, it is the pans. The pans are made to vibrate by electric currents caused in the induction hob. That is completely normal. In fact: that is how induction works! The electric current goes from the induction hob to the pan that is on it. This current makes the particles in the pan vibrate, which heats up the pan. And with it what is in the pan.
Buzzing or humming
You hear a humming or buzzing sound. Induction hob specific! You can also hear a high-pitched beep. This is also part of normal operation of the induction hob. If you remove the pan from the cooking zone, the sound disappears again.
Difference between pans
One pan makes more noise than another. This often has to do with the quality and conductivity of the pan. Fully aluminum pans and cast iron pans conduct well and therefore make less noise. Cast iron pans are often a bit more expensive. Tip: on Marktplaats there are sometimes gems among them for a reasonable price. Cheaper pans with a base consisting of multiple layers make more noise. This is because vibrations can occur between the layers.
In short: an induction hob makes noise when cooking. The noise comes from the pan that is on it. One pan makes more noise than the other.
