How an hob with extraction works
An induction hob with extraction draws cooking fumes directly downwards. This happens close to the pan, reducing the spread of vapours and odours into the room. The air then goes through several steps: first, grease is removed from the air via the grease filter, then odours are filtered via the odour filter. Finally, the air is blown back into the room. This system is called recirculation.
For a system with external exhaust (no recirculation of air back into the room), an odour filter is not necessary.
Two filters: grease filter and odour filter
An induction hob with extraction works with two filter systems: the grease filter and the odour filter.
For odour filters, there are various technologies, such as carbon filters and plasma filters. For the MAKUS induction hob with extraction, both a high-quality carbon filter and a plasma filter can be used.
Filter maintenance
Good maintenance ensures your hob continues to work optimally. It extends its lifespan and keeps the extraction effective.
1. Grease filter
The grease filter captures fats from cooking fumes. This filter should be cleaned regularly but not replaced.
Guideline: approximately once a week with normal use.
If you cook intensely or with a lot of fat, clean the filter immediately after use, in the dishwasher or by hand.
2. Odour filter: three options
Depending on your setup, you can use a carbon filter in the hob, a carbon filter in the plinth, or a plasma filter in the plinth.
Carbon filter in the hob
This filter can be cleaned and reused. With intensive use, clean the filter every 3 to 6 months.
Here's how: remove the carbon filter from the hob. It is located at the bottom right and can be easily unclipped from its housing. It is easiest to first remove the drawer under the hob. Rinse the filter with warm water of approximately 50 to 55 degrees and let it dry in the oven at 60 degrees for 60 minutes. This process can be repeated approximately 4 to 5 times. After that, replace the filter according to the guideline below:
- Intensive use: 12 to 18 months
- Average use: 18 to 24 months
- Light use: 24 to 27 months
Carbon filter in the plinth
This filter cannot be cleaned. Replace it according to the same schedule as above.
Plasma filter in the plinth
An alternative to a carbon filter is a plasma filter. Besides odours, this filter also removes bacteria, fungi, and fine dust from the air. A plasma filter lasts an average of 10 to 15 years and can also be used with the MAKUS Moon.
