Cleaning an Induction Cooktop: How to Do it Right

Cleaning your induction hob: how to do it right

An induction hob is much easier to keep clean than a gas hob. No burners, no raised edges, just a sleek, flat surface. However, there are a few things to keep in mind to keep your Makus in top condition.

The golden rule: clean immediately

Most stains are easy to remove if you tackle them immediately: right after cooking or after eating. In most cases, water or a small amount of cleaning agent with a cloth or sponge is sufficient.

Wait too long? Then stains can burn in and there will be more work to do.

Approved cleaning agents

Always use a cleaning agent that has been tested and approved by SCHOTT CERAN, the manufacturer of the ceramic glass in your Makus. Approved agents include:

  • Delu Ako Minky (Ceramic Hob Cleaner)
  • Dr. Becher (Ceramic Cleaner)
  • JEMAKO (Lemon Stone)
  • Kruidvat ceramic hob cleaner
  • Lidl W5

Use them sparingly. We are working on our own sustainable Makus variant, which will be available soon.

Specific stains and how to tackle them

Burned-in acids. Make sure pans are dry on the outside. If stains do appear? Remove them with an approved cleaning agent and a cloth.

Shiny oil layer. These stains are caused by unsuitable cleaning agents. Remove them as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the harder they are to remove.

Burned-in sugar. Sugar caramelizes at just 110 degrees and reacts with the ceramic glass. Remove it immediately with a sponge. Is it already burned in? Then use a metal scraper. Small indentations that may occur have no effect on functionality.

Melted aluminum or plastic foil. Remove foil immediately from the hot plate. Once melted, it cannot be removed, but it has no effect on the hob's operation.

Metallic stains. Cookware with an aluminum or copper bottom can leave a residue. In most cases, these stains can be removed with an approved cleaning agent.

Preventing scratches

Makus glass comes from SCHOTT CERAN (the best ceramic glass in the world) and is scratch-resistant to a certain extent. With these tips, you can prevent unnecessary scratches:

  • Use suitable pots and pans
  • Keep the bottom of pans dry and clean
  • Do not use oven sprays or aggressive stain removers
  • Do not treat your hob as a countertop

Finally

With a little regularity, your Makus will look beautiful year after year. Do you have a question about cleaning your hob? Feel free to contact us.
