Via the MAKUS website, we regularly receive the questions: can you use all pans on induction? Do I have to throw away my pans if I switch from gas to induction? Fortunately, in most cases, you don't have to! If you have another question, please check our FAQ page.
A pan is suitable for induction if it is magnetic and has a (somewhat) flat bottom. The pan being magnetic is important for the operating mechanism of the induction hob, which relies on the transfer of electrons. A (somewhat) flat bottom is important because electrons are transferred between the pan and the induction hob, ultimately causing the pan to heat up.

You can test your own pans for suitability by performing the following tests:
1) Check if your pan is magnetic by holding a magnet against the bottom: if the magnet sticks, the pan is magnetic.
2) Check if the pan has a flat bottom by holding the bottom of the pan horizontally at eye level. If you see a bulge, the bottom is no longer flat. A small bulge is not a problem; the pan will still work well. So try the pan first, even if a small bulge is visible!

Examples of pans:
- Is a cast iron pan induction-proof? Yes
- Is a stainless steel pan induction-proof? Yes (
- Is a copper pan suitable for induction? No. Unless it has a magnetic coating. You should ask the seller about this.
- Is an aluminum pan induction-proof? No. Unless it has a magnetic coating. Again, we advise: ask the seller.
Newer pans often have the induction-proof symbol when they are suitable for induction cooking. That symbol looks like this:
